How To Choose The Best Collagen Supplement

Collagen is the ‘glue’ that holds our body together—keeping it strong, healthy and vital.

Whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, or 40s, collagen is a type of protein that will intrigue you with its innumerable benefits. If you’re in your 50s, it might be the one protein you should be caring about the most.

Fun fact: Collagen is the most abundant protein (30% of all proteins) in the human body, found on skin, bones, muscles, tendons, blood vessels as well as our digestive system.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is a complex protein, consisting of 19 out of the 21 amino acids common to all life forms. The main amino acids are proline, glycine, and hydroxyproline - together forming fibril-like structures with the help of Vitamin C, Zinc, Copper and Manganese. Collagen fibrils are what allow the shape of connective tissues to be defined and maintained.

Types of Collagen

The main sources of collagen are poultry, bovine, milk, or fish. A total of about 28 different types of collagen have been identified, but we can focus on the 5 main types.

  1. Type I and Type III make up 90 % of the collagen. They’re densely packed in your skin, tendons, ligaments, bones, muscles, arteries. They also help provide structure and shape your organs, including your heart.
  2. Type II is mostly found in cartilage, essential for joint support.
  3. Type IV is found in layers of your skin.
  4. Type V is usually found in your cornea, some layers of the skin, hair and the placenta.

Fun fact: By the time you are 60 years old, 50% of your collagen has been depleted. The collagen in the dermis changes from being tightly organised to being extensively unorganised. Excessive UV rays and ageing are the major contributors to reducing the thickness and strength of collagen, leading to the formation of wrinkles.

What causes collagen loss

Benefits of Collagen Supplements

Collagen & Skin Health

Multiple clinical studies show that collagen supplementation reduces signs of ageing by increasing skin elasticity and hydration, allowing for a smoother and youthful appearance.

Collagen, Joint Pain & Muscle Health

Research shows that Type II collagen supplements may improve joint pain and stiffness, which is highly beneficial, especially for elders or those with osteoarthritis.

Studies also suggest that collagen supplements help boost muscle mass in people with sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass that happens with age. Collagen may also help lose more weight and build more muscle over time.

The Best Collagen Supplement: AVEA Collagen Activator

Developed in collaboration with scientists from ETH Zurich, our collagen boosting supplement features a patent-pending blend of amino acids - Colgevity that has been shown to ideally activate collagen production, being 4 X more effective than standard collagen supplements.

The AVEA Collagen Activator combines Colgevity™ with 3 other active ingredients; powerful antioxidant Astaxanthin, natural Vitamin C from acerola cherries, and the longevity star ingredient Calcium Alpha-Ketoglutarate. Together, these join forces as a unique formula to boost collagen levels, and offer various health benefits besides rejuvenating your cells to your skin.

Collagen & Bone Health

Preliminary studies show that collagen supplementation delays bone loss in post menopausal women.

Collagen, Hair & Nails

In a study conducted on 39-75 year old healthy women, a daily dose of collagen peptides (hydrolysed collagen) can help increase hair thickness and regenerate hair follicles.

Collagen & Gut Health

Collagen plays a crucial role in rebuilding and strengthening our gut lining, as it contains amino acids - particularly glycine (also present in the AVEA Collagen Activator) and glutamine which are essential amino acids needed for repair. It also helps digestion and better nutrient absorption.

Collagen & Vascular Health

It helps keep arteries healthy and strong. In one small study, people who took a collagen supplement twice per day showed a significant reduction in arterial stiffness.

Collagen & Better Sleep

The most dominant amino acid found in collagen is Glycine. Research has linked this amino acid to improved mood stability and restful sleep.

How is the AVEA Collagen Activator unique?

Patented Blend of Collagen Precursors

Our research with scientists from ETH Zurich allowed for the development of the ideal ratio of amino acids as ColgevityThese are the building blocks of collagen which are easily absorbed, and activate the collagen turnover in the body.

One for all: Ideal Vegan Mix

Experts have demonstrated how vegan collagen precursors have several benefits when it comes to Collagen synthesis. Collagen peptides supplements have been around for some time, but most of them aren’t vegan or vegetarian friendly since manufacturers tend to extract them from bones and proteins of animals. Our Collagen Activator consists of the amino acids of direct amino acids- proline, glycine, and hydroxyproline.

Ingredients working in synergy

Our carefully-chosen ingredients are highly bioavailable and work in synergy to boost collagen production and much more. Each ingredient used is backed by several clinical studies for their multiple health benefits.

This includes the daily dose of Vitamin C, one of the strongest antioxidants astaxanthin, as well as CaAKG, which is our longevity star ingredient.

Conclusion:

  • Collagen is a protein that is essential for forming and repairing connective tissues throughout your body. It supports your joints, tendons, hair, nails, skin, and digestion.
  • Vitamin C, Manganese, copper, proline are some factors that promote collagen synthesis.
  • The AVEA Collagen Activator is optimal for restoring and maintaining collagen in your body. With over 500 hours spent in the lab, our formula is unlike other collagen supplements. It’s also vegan and vegetarian friendly since we make use of direct amino acids.
